AMERICAN LITERATURE – ERNEST HEMINGWAY
Ernest Hemingway was one of the most famous American writers of the 1900s. He belonged to the group of writers called themselves The Lost Generation.
Hemingway was born in 1899 in Chicago. He did not stay there all his life, however. Cuba and Paris became his adopted homes.
Ernest Hemingway worked as a newspaper reporter. During The World War I. he was ambulance driver in Europe.
In 1954 Hemingway was awarded the Nobel prize for The old man and the sea.
His life was interesting and full of adventure.

Santiago had a bad luck and was starving because he hadn´t caught a fish for a long time – Manolin´s parents prohibited him to work with Santiago – Manolin was still helping Santiago
One day he felt that he would have a good luck that day – he reached the open sea – he caught the big fish
For three days he was fighting with the fish – after that the fish was tired – he killed the fish with the harpoon
When he was on the way back home a group of sharks was getting near to his boat – they started to eat the fish
When he returned – the only proof of his catch was the giant skeleton
It shows the battle of a man with nature and also a battle with himself
