April 18, 1951 - signing of the Treaty of Paris establishing the European Coal and Steel Community
According to the proposal by Robert Schuman (the French Minister for Foreign Affairs) Jean Monnet (collaborated with Schuman - the ECSC plan) and Konrad Adenauer (the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany)
The founding countries are the Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and France
1957 - creation of the European Economic Community
1973 - entry of Ireland, Denmark and the United Kingdom
1985 - border controls are abolished (from Schengen)
1992 - the Maastricht Treaty creates the European Union which replaces the EEC
2002 - the euro is in circulation
2020 - the UK has decided to leave

The biggest enlargement of the EU on the 1st of May 2004 brought in 10 countries including the Czech republic
The most important changes are – each czech resident became a member of the EU
The offcial documents are translated into Czech because Czech became an official language of the EU

The flag - it is blue and has 12 stars in a circle (the circle symbolizes union and equality and the stars represent perfection)

The euro symbol - it is inspired by a Greek letter - epsilon and the 2 bars crossing the symbol represent the stability of the currency
