In our country sport is also very popular. Our national sports are surely ice-hockey and football. We are known as the „hockey nation“ since we won the Olympic hockey tournament in Nagano in 1998. But we also have lots of other famous and successful personalities in other sports, such as Barbora Špotáková, Roman Šebrle, Martina Sáblíková etc.
From the Czech Republic also come a lot of worldwide known people from many other branches like Karel Čapek and Jaroslav Seifert who are famous writers, composers Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák or the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garigue Masaryk.
