Students will learn about system attributes of agricultural production. The strong relation of agriculture to the environmental conditions will be explained. Basic tools of agricultural management will be placed in broader context. Main concepts of crop rotations, soil tillage, and crop protection will be presented. Information will be given about novel and progressive methods used in crop husbandry. In practical lessons, students will create a project on farming practices commonly used in their countries. They will evaluate the environmental conditions of concrete area suitable for farming. Subsequently, they will design a functional crop rotation. For each crop in their rotation they will propose technology of soil tillage and crop protection methods.

Znalosti:Student knows the importance of agriculture in relation to human civilisation development, knows main periods of historical evolution of agricultural systems. He has got the knowledge about the influence of environmental factors onto agricultural production and about the regionality of agricultural production. He knows the importance of crop rotations and the needs of individual crops related to rotating the crops. He is oriented in different systems of soil tillage; he knows the function of particular tillage operations. He has the information about the main groups of harmful organisms and their impact onto agricultural production, knows the differences between main ways of their management. He knows the typology of the most important agricultural systems, their basic characteristics and their impact on environment. He has got the information about modern trends in agriculture, like precision farming and growing of GM crops.Dovednosti:Student is able to analyse different management systems on arable land. He can evaluate main environmental factors of selected site and classify it in the rank of agricultural production regions. He can design functional and balanced crop rotations for different crop production systems. Student is able to asses crop rotations in relation to their productivity. He can evaluate different tillage systems and basic soil properties using simple instrumental techniques of their measurement. He is able to identify the most important weed species and knows their biology, harmfulness and possible control. He can asses productive and environmental advantages and disadvantages of innovative trends in agricultural production.Kompetence - komunikace:Student is able to work both in the team and/or under the leadership of other person. He can communicate in English language with the use of professional terminology of this particular subject. He has the skills to formulate, discuss, and to present his own opinion, he can comprehensively share the information, thoughts, to concretise problems and to present solutions.Kompetence - úsudek:Student is able to do his work creatively and initiatively. Can assess and apply information sources (professional literature, documents, databases, web pages etc) and classify and evaluate the results of scientific research. During decision making process uses his own knowledge together with other professionals. He is competent to support and organise work of other team members.
