The aim of the subject is acquisition of knowledge about structure, properties and types of reactions of organic compounds for the students of Erasmus-Socrates programme. Acquisition of prerequisites for more detailed understanding of biochemical interconversions. From the nomenclature and basic types of reactions the explanation continues to properties and reactivity of individual types of compounds with emphasis on these aspects in the constituents of living organisms. At the same time attention is devoted to synthetic compounds used in agriculture. Basic form of teaching represent lectures, in seminars formulations of interconversions of organic compouds are trained and in experimental laboratory works (ca 50 %) students can obtain basic skills in organic chemical laboratory. Part of time is devoted to the control of running acquiaintances of students and students can also elaborate a brief report and work on the topic of their interest.
Získané způsobilosti
Znalosti:Students are provided with a general knowledge of organic chemistry; they can systematically sort and classify organic compounds according to their functional groups. Students acquire knowledge of systematic (IUPAC) and trivial nomenclature of organic compounds in the English language and by a systematic name they are able to write a structural formula of the compound. They are aware of the principles of the nomenclature used in organic chemistry. On the basis of important functional groups contained in the molecules of organic compounds they can deduce their relevant physical and chemical properties. Students are capable to define the basic types of reactions typical for each group of organic compounds and to apply these reactions to other organic compounds of the same type. They can classify and determine all major organic compounds and characterize their properties. Students are familiar with the importance and potential applications of all types of organic compounds in many fields - agriculture, food processing, chemical industry, pharmacy, medicine, and in all areas of daily life. They are able to describe the importance of natural products and explain their role in the basic biochemical and biotechnological processes.Dovednosti:Students have the ability to apply basic skills in laboratory techniques of organic chemical laboratory, and can use this technique for the preparation of selected organic compounds. They are able to perform the analysis and determination of organic compounds especially that of natural character contained in analyzed samples and calculate their content. They are capable to assess the quality of the material and to compare the different analyzed samples in terms of quantitative representation of the monitored parameters. They can practically apply the various laboratory techniques for synthesis and analysis of organic compounds. Students know how to explain the attitudes and behaviours of organic compounds based on knowledge of their structure and isomerism. They can use the separation and analytical techniques for separation and determination of individual organic substances contained in the complex system of natural material. Students are able to orient themselves in the properties of organic compounds on the basis of their structure and their use in agricultural practice and other fields.Kompetence - komunikace:Students can lead small groups and are able to work closely with their superiors. They are able to communicate in English when discussing topics related to their field at a professional level. They formulate their own views, discuss and present their views, summarize and specify aspects of the problem and propose possible solutions. They are able to use special terminology to communicate both with professionals and laypersons.Kompetence - úsudek:Students possess ability to work with information sources in English (literature, databases, web pages), their applications and to assess their quality. They are capable of effectively use of their own experience as well as of professionals. They can build working teams and share the work. They are able to formulate the views of working groups and explain the different types of activities to both professionals and laypersons.
