Acquisition of principles of nomenclature, basic types of reactions of organic compounds. Relations between their structure, properties and their occurrence in the nature. Basic forms of tuition are composed of lectures, seminars and laboratory exercises, elaborations of laboratory protocols and reports on the newest topics. Structure of course includes the acquisition of knowledge about the system, structure and properties of organic compounds with the emphasis on persistent organic pollutants and their effects on the health of ecosystems, wildlife and people.

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Students have advanced knowledge of the classification of organic compounds by their functional groups. They are aware of the principles of systematic and other nomenclatures of organic compounds in the English language, and they are able according to a systematic name to write a structural formula of the compound. On the basis of important functional groups, which are included in molecules of compounds, they can deduce their relevant physical and chemical properties. They possess the ability to define the types of reactions typical for each group of organic compounds and to apply these reactions to other organic compounds of the same type. They can classify and determine the major organic compounds with a focus on persistent organic pollutants (pesticides, polychlorinated hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, brominated flame retardants and organometallic compounds) and characterize them on the basis of their properties. They are capable of effective explanation of the importance and potential applications of organic compounds in many fields - agriculture, food processing, chemical industry, pharmacy, medicine, and in all areas of everyday life and to define their possible toxic effects.Dovednosti:Students have the ability to build more complex laboratory apparatus (distillation apparatus) and used it for analytical determination. They are familiar with some instrumental analysis techniques used for determination of toxic pollutants (AMA 254 for determination of mercury). They can independently synthesize some derivatives, anilides, identify carbonyl compounds by thin layer chromatography. Students know how to interpret the data obtained for persistent organic pollutants (pesticides, polychlorinated hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, brominated flame retardants and organometallic compounds) for to both professionals and laypersons and management saving the environment. Students are able to orient themselves in the basic knowledge of selected organic and analytical chemistry and agricultural practices and basic procedures in experimental work in the chemical laboratory. They are able to select appropriate analytical and sampling system for determination of selected analytes in biological material and implement it according to standard operating procedures. Students are able to manage operational activities and produce a report of analytical the determination.Kompetence - komunikace:Students are able to communicate in English even when discussing topics related to their field at a professional level, using technical terminology. They can efficiently transfer instructions and decisions in a working team. They are able to communicate English even when discussing topics related to the issues of organic compounds with emphasis on organic pollutants at a professional level.Kompetence - úsudek:Students have the ability to deal with sources of information; they can appropriate information differentiate, classify and evaluate. They are able to formulate the views of working groups and they approach to their work creatively. They are able to evaluate the toxicity of organic pollutants, their persistence and the danger in the environment. They evaluate the findings of professional research in a coherent form.
