Aquaculture is the fastest growing part of food production in the world, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Aquaculture, namely fish production, supplies main input of animal proteins for human nutrition in developing countries. The course will provide the students with information, which will serve as an essential base for their consequent studies of aquaculture concerning production of various aquatic organisms. The content of the course will be also useful for decision-making regarding food and agriculture policy in developing countries or relevant international institutions. The course is constructed to give students general information regarding problematic of aquaculture. The first lecture gives an overview of aquaculture production in worldwide scale. Two lectures are dedicated to aquatic environment including its physical and chemical characteristics. In one of the lectures students learn about primary production in aquatic environments and its management. In two lectures students are informed about the mollusc and crustacean cultures with biological basement of their breeding. Substantial part of the course covers studies of fish production with particular attention dedicated to biology, physiology and ecology of fish, reproduction and genetics, fish nutrition, which form the basis of extensive and intensive fish culture. There are also mentioned economy of fish production and environmental impacts.

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Students have a general overview of global agricultural production in the aquatic environment - and they are aware of the status of aquaculture and problems associated with fishery issues on a world wide scale. They know the geographic distribution of aquaculture production. Students possess a knowledge of the aquatic environment and the specifics of organic matter production in water. Students acquire knowledge of environmental parameters and their relationship. They are versed in the basics of aquaculture technologies of plants, shellfish, crustaceans, marine and freshwater fishes. Students are provided with a general knowledge of fish farming in the fields of anatomy, physiology and genetics, fish nutrition and fish feed. They are aware of the principles of extensive and intensive fish farming, as well as with environmental problems related to aquaculture production.Dovednosti:Students are able to orient themselves in the various fields of aquatic environment biomass production, both through farming of aquatic biota, and through freshwater and saltwater fishing. They recognize important species reared in aquaculture, and have a basic understanding of the technology involved in their breeding. They also know the basic principles of environmental quality assessment in accordance with basic aquaculture criteria.Kompetence - komunikace:Students can lead small groups and efficiently transfer instructions and decisions. Students are able to work closely with their superiors. They can formulate their own views on the care of living organisms and aquatic resources, as well as activities assigned to staff.Kompetence - úsudek:Students are able to manage operational activities regarding the rearing of aquatic biota, and they have the ability to deal with problems arising in this area. They are capable of effectively organizing tasks for employees and providing adequate evaluation of their work. They are responsible for the quality of work, and they are able to monitor the appropriateness and effectiveness of the measures taken.
