This course will cover the biology and the diversity of fishes. Because fishes are such a diverse group of organisms we will cover these topics in a general way focussing in species important from human perspective. The laboratory has two major components. First, it will serve as a practical guide to the anatomy and diversity of fishes. Second, it will cover the use of external anatomy and dichotomous keys to aid in identification of fishes found in Central european waters. Laboratory work consists of examining and dissecting preserved fish specimens. The species which are important for aquaculture food production or aquaristic are emphasized. Subject offers general information about fish exploatation and aquaculture too
