Subject Fundamentals of plant protection delivers students basic information about plant protection. Lectures are devoted to the description of main groups of plant pests and pathogens, methods of their determination, and methods of plant protection. In this course students work with pests and pathogens, determinate them and learn to choose the optimal methods for their control. Lectures, practical exercises and seminars are the main delivery systems for this course.

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Students have basic knowledge about main groups of plant pathogens (viruses, viroids, bacteria, fungi) and pests (insects, mites, nematodes). They know symptoms caused by them, sources of infection and also possibilities of their spreading and conditions for disease and/or population development. They have knowledge both about relation host - pathogen and disease epidemiology. They know main methods of protection against different groups of pathogens and pests.Dovednosti:Students are able to recognize groups of pests and pathogens according to symptom visible on plant. They are able to use microscope or binocular for diagnostics of fungal pathogens and some pests and are able to choose appropriate diagnostic method for determination of other pests and pathogens. They are also able to choose corresponding methods of protection against various groups of pests and pathogens.Kompetence - komunikace:Students are able to communicate with other experts using the English terminology and are also able to explain the problematics to subordinates. They are also able to defend their opinions and ideas and to promote possible solvings of problems.Kompetence - úsudek:Students are able to solve the tasks creatively and initiatively. The proces of decision making is based on their experience, literature, and internet. They are also able to consult their problems with experts from universities and research institutes.
