Cíl

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the principals of geology- the nature of the Earth and the processes which shape it. The course offers an overview of plate tectonics, volcanism, mountain building, origin of minerals and rocks, weathering, erosion, formation of soil, water and energy resources. The knowledge of basic geological principles is essential for many other fields such as pedology, hydrology, geochemistry and environmental sciences. Besides theoretical knowledge, students will learn how to identify basic rocks and rock-forming minerals.

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Student knows and is able to describe the structure and material composition of the Earth. He can discern the basic geological structures and is able to put them in the general context of geological evolution. He knows the mineralogical and petrographic system. He can identify basic types of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. He is able to apply his geological knowledge in practice. He can define the relationship of basic geological principles to the current environmental problems such as contamination of soil, surface water, groundwater, etc.Dovednosti:Based on the structural, textural and mineralogical characteristics student can identify basic rock types. He can discern basic geological formations and interpret the geological conditions of their formation. He is able to use his knowledge for practical solution of environmental problems such as contamination of the pedosphere and hydrosphere.Kompetence - komunikace:Student is able to work both under the leadership and the teamwork. He can formulate, discuss and present his opinion. He can clearly communicate, specify the problems and propose possible solutions.Kompetence - úsudek:Student takes his work creatively. He is able to assess, evaluate and apply information sources (literature, databases, web sites etc.). By the formation of his discretion student uses the experience and expertise of professionals.
