The course is focused on the main soil characteristic, function and its protection. Attention is paid to the assessment of soil pollution and degradation and critical soil loadings assessments. Remediation techniques are also described.

Znalosti:The students have deep knowledge on soil importance, on its production and environmental functions as well as on the main threats for soils as defined in Soil Thematic strategy of EU. They have detailed overview of the current problems in soil protection mainly on soil contamination by heavy metals, pesticides and persistent organic contaminants. They have basic knowledge in soil ecotoxicology. They have good knowledge on current legislative in respect to the soil protection in the Czech Republic and in the Europe. They have good knowledge on soil degradation processes, soil acidification and also soil desertification. They are acquainted with the ways and technologies to solve the problems.Dovednosti:They are capable based on literature sources and necessary laboratory soil testing evaluate the state and the rate of soil degradation processes by respecting appropriate legislative. They are also capable to suggest appropriate measures to solve the problems.Kompetence - komunikace:Students can work under supervision or in a team. They an communicate in Czech language using special soil science terminology correctly. They can formulate, discuss, and present their own opinions. They can present soil information and thoughts in a comprehensive way. They can specify problems and suggest possible solutions and procedures for soil improvement and conservation and protection.Kompetence - úsudek:Students can work creatively. They can evaluate and apply information about soils from different sources (special literature, documents, databases, internet, etc.). They create opinions using also their own experience and expert knowledge. They are capable of effectively organizing tasks for employees and providing adequate evaluation of their work.
