The subject deals with wood as biological renewable material. It describes its structure on individual levels and also focuses on its properties. Special attantion is paid to identification of woods. Lectures cover theoretical issues. Practical seminars focus on identification of woods.

Znalosti:Students understand the process of wood formation. They know wood structure on all anatomical levels. They know wood defects and wood properties and their impact on wood processing and utilisation. Students comprehend relation between wood anatomy and wood properties.Dovednosti:Students can recognize macroscopic and microscopic features of wood. On that basis they are able to identify an unknown sample of timber. Students are skill enough to test the basic physical and mechanical wood properties and propose appropriate utilisation of the evaluated timber according to the results.Kompetence - komunikace:Student is able to work within a group. He can make his own opinion and to present his conclusions to other students. He is capable to discuss an issue and defend his views.Kompetence - úsudek:On the basis of knowledge, experiences and capacity to work with information resources students are able to identify a problem and find the best solution.
