Cíl

To introduce students to the specifics of animal production in the tropics and to apprise them of occasion to breed indigenous animals. Contents of the subject reflex on contemporary look at effective and sustainable production of animal products in the tropics by means of original animal species. It will include bee production, snail farming, rodents breeding technology, ostrich farming, antelope and deer breeding, ranching of the game and fresh water fisheries. The subject will interactively lead students to submit their own proposal to start project in developing countries. Students will visit bee production farm, ostrich and antelope farm in the Czech Republic to practise their theoretical knowledge.

Znalosti:Graduates of the course should have general overview about origin, biology, ecology, behaviour, breeding and husbandry of indigenous animal species with special emphasis on Africa and South America. The specific knowledge about husbandry and breeding specifics of selected taxon (insect, molluscs, reptiles, fishes, birds and mammals) will be given.Dovednosti:Graduates would be able to evaluate the local condition of certain part of tropics and subtropics and to propose the specific farming project of specific local wild and indigenous animal species for farming. The project concerns on provision of animals feed, technology, labour and management with emphasis to processing and marketing the products.Kompetence - komunikace:Students would be open to receive and evaluate the information on the base of own knowledge, experience and innovative approaches. They would be able not only to work in team, but also in management with the formulation and presentation of original conceptions and solutions of problems and be able to argue for successful implementation.Kompetence - úsudek:Graduates would have ability to draft the farming project of selected indigenous animal. They should by able to synthesise and evaluate relevant scientific information and own knowledge. Students would have experience to establish and manage small scale farm including human, financial and environmental sources in sustainable way and would be able to train/educate local employees.
