The subject gives students overview about various grazing systems and grassland management, with focus on the needs of developing countries in tropical and subtropical regions. During lectures the technique of forage crops growing on arable land, pratotechniques on natural and permanent grasslands, the sources, use, harvest and possible conservation of forage are explained. Characteristics of the most important tropical forages species, organisation of forage production and opportunities of introduction of new more productive species of forage crops for various ecological conditions are explained. The subject form connecting part between animal and crop production and by this way supply total profile of graduates.

Znalosti:Graduates have the theoretical knowledge in the field of tropical pastures and fodder crops, relating to traditional knowledge and the latest findings in the field. They know the current status of the base to provide fodder for livestock in the tropics and subtropics. They know the technical terminology used in the field. They have an overview of the most important plant species used as forage, understand the principles of tropical grassland and have expert knowledge on the ecology and management of grassland. The knowledge of graduates serve as the basis for original thinking and enable them to participate in research. Graduates also have a critical awareness of the problems in the field.Dovednosti:They can apply their knowledge in practice. Students are able to orientate in the field of tropical forages and pastures. Are able to apply their knowledge in solving or research projects designed to provide feed for livestock. They are able to build upon the their knowledge for establishment, management, monitoring and evaluation of grassland.Kompetence - komunikace:Graduates can combine their acquired theoretical and practical knowledge. Students are able to work both under the leadership and the teamwork. They can communicate in English using the specific terminology . They can formulate and present their own views from the fieldand clearly communicate information, ideas, specify the problems, and possible solutions.Kompetence - úsudek:Graduates of the cours are able to approach their work creatively and with motivation. For the formation of their opinion they use all relevant information (literature, personal experience, experiences of experts), and are responsible for evaluating and improving their working activities.
