Cíl

Goal and subject of the course: To adopt approaches of scientific work, particularly (1) systematic education and review of scientific literature, (2) formulation of preliminary (work) and null hypotheses following conclusions based on previous (published or pilot) studies, (3) adjustment and execution of terrain works (design of observations and experiment), (4) data storing and preparation for statistical analyses, (5) basic statistical procedures and interpreting data, (6) presentation of the results and conclusions (conference talk and scientific paper). Theoretical comments are demonstrated using case studies combined with practical course consisting of review following the Web of Knowledge, elaboration of data set using proper software (Excel, Statistica, R, CANOCO) and preparation of oral (10 minutes) presentation in PowerPoint and a concise written contribution (extended abstract with formal statistic protocol).

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Students understand the difficulties of hypothesis formulation, which are biologically relevant and they know basic statistical procedures, which can be used while hypotheses testing. They have an overview in essential sources, from which an actual literature can be excerpt. They know software for statistical analyzes.Dovednosti:Students work efectivelly with up-to-date literature and on the basis of the bibliographic searches they are able to formulate biologically relevant hypothesis, which can be statistically tested. They handle a correct actions with data before analyzes and they handle easy statistical prosedures using standardized statistical programs.Kompetence - komunikace:Students respect and handle communication rules in specialized teams. They are able to justify in detail actions for problem solving including methodological crags, formulate and defend their own opinions.Kompetence - úsudek:Students work efectivelly with up-to-date literature and on the basis of the bibliographic searches they are able to formulate biologically sensefull hypothesis, which can be statistically tested. They handle a correct actions with data before analyzes and they handle easy statistical prosedures using standardized statistical programs.
