1/ At the completion of this course, the graduate will gain an understanding of theoretical knowledge at the highest level in the field based on independent scientific studies of Czech and foreign scientific literature. The graduate will learn to find and use also all additional sources of information, through lectures, excursions, and active communication with the guarant and other domestic and foreign lichenologists and mycologists as well as scientists and from other disciplines. Graduates will master a comprehensive review of lichens in terms of their taxonomy, systematics, morphology and anatomy, modes of reproduction, chemistry, ecology, as well as the methodologies of using of lichens in bioindicatiors of atmospheric, climatic and environmental conditions and changes.2/ The graduate will know at least 150 species of lichens and how to identify other species using the scientific literature. The graduate will learn how to apply theoretical knowledge and understanding in solving problems using scientific instruments in a laboratory at the faculty as well as how to locate and use other equipment when needed. The graduate will learn to analyze a new scientific problem and to design a strategy to solve the problem that will lead to a successful resolution. The graduate will learn how to formulate the resolution for publication in refereed journals and presentation in lectures.
