GIS course makes students acquainted with Geographical Information Systems and possibilities of their utilization. GIS is introduced as a tool for obtaining, managing and analyzing of spatial data. The main focus is on the possibility of using GIS as an analytical tool for the geodata processing. Apart from the theoretical basis, students work with a GIS software (ArcGIS), create spatial data and solve simple spatial analyses.

Získané způsobilosti

Znalosti:Students have a basic knowledge in the field of Geographic Information Systems, their structure and functionality, and they are aware of their importance and possible applications in various fields. They know the basic data models and techniques of an acquisition and storage of vector and raster data. Students are also familiar with the basics of the cartographic projections and design. They know the basic analytical tools for vector data, as well as the principles of getting information from spatial data.Dovednosti:Students actively manage the basic GIS processing tasks, including software tools. They can apply visualization tools and manage the creation of map composition. They can create spatial data on their own, design the structure and the method of storage and management of these data within the simple model task from the environmental field. Students use appropriate analytical tools and functions for analyzing and displaying spatial data in terms of their position, attribute properties and spatial relations to the surroundings. They are able to use the results as a basis for specialized work in their field.Kompetence - komunikace:Students are able to actively communicate and thus deepen and sift the acquired knowledge and skills. They actively work in a team, creatively solve given tasks, design their own workflows and solutions. They are able to communicate with experts in the field of Geoinformatics and explain the contribution of their work to nonspecialists. They can present the results of their work and defend the chosen solution.Kompetence - úsudek:Students are able to synthesize, confront and critically examine the inputs, proposed information and results of analyses. They can assess the suitability of input data for a certain spatial task and evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of the results in the context of the overall solution. They are able to assess the quality of information relating to the subject, presented by the student teams.
