The goal of the course is to provide students basic information about sociology and ural sociology, the way of sociological thinking and its importance for everyday life and professional career. The style of the course is based on lectures and seminars, where are solved specific problems related to the particular issues in the countryside and farming.

Znalosti:The students of this course got the knowledge of sociology and rural sociology in the terms of its history, main schools and paradigms and the key issues addressed by the sociology and rural sociology. They also have the knowledge of key terms and concepts in the sociology and rural sociology. All acquired knowledge is in English. After the course the students understand social contexts of various social processes and issues (especially the issues related to the countryside and farming and food) in the relations to the knowledge of the key sociological concepts. Students' knowledge is of practical nature. It means they apply theoretical knowledge to the situations existing in the human social lives in the countryside.Dovednosti:The students understand without any problems the oral explanations in English and master to read English texts. They are skilled to discuss the issues addressed by rural sociology in English. All these skills are joined with the capabilities to apply the sociological finings to the human social lives in the countryside and to the problems which they might face in their everyday lives in the countryside. Because the background of the sociological reasoning is the imagination, the students are able to solve the problems in the imaginative way (they are able to consider the social issues in their context and previous development; they understand the connotations of social processes and are able to doubt about the issues which are often taken for granted).Kompetence - komunikace:The students govern the skills to communicate in the teams. They are able to communicate their thoughts also to the people who are not educated in the discipline. It is also important the students are able to communicate sociological issues in English.Kompetence - úsudek:Based on the sociological knowledge the students are able to formulate their opinions in non-trivial way. Their opinions are supported by existing facts they accumulated through the study. They do not present biased views about but they are able to doubt about the issues and to present the spectrum of the possible explanations of the social worlds (especially in the sphere of economy)
