The course is divided into three areas:A) The importance of sociology and the specifics of rural sociology, contemporary post-modern changes and rural topicsB) Basic sociological terminology and how to use itC) Empirical research, practical questioning, interpretation pitfalls, statistics, the art of interpretationLectures:- Introduction to the sociological way of thinking, basic approaches and theories- Why rural sociology? Traditional and contemporary functions of rural areas - agriculture as a key? Basic sociological concepts I.- Rural versus urban - a problem with the definition of rural. Basic sociological concepts II.- Culture, rural culture, its rise and fall- Simultaneous changes in the landscape and rural society- The modernity project and EU "Rural Project" and rural support- Environment and Natural Resources in sociology - the case of environmental sociology- What precedes the data collection in sociological research, research problem, hypotheses, operationalization- Questions, quantitative and qualitative approach- Statistics in sociology - basic use- Basic techniques of data collection (observation, questioning, experts)- The art of InterpretationSeminars:Seminars are devoted to practical research, formulation of questions, sociological reading of answers and interpretation.
