Cíl
The course is devoted to modern Czech literature and its sources. It has been inspired by the theory of possible, that is fictional, worlds; this theory is made clear by using examples from both Czech and other literatures. It will trace the correlation between reality and its rendering in literature; it will analyze methods used by individual authors and schools.The lecturers will deal with the following topics:Studying Czech Literature and Culture, Fictional and Factual Worlds of Modern Czech Literature, Baroque Poetics I. (an illustration on the Basis of the Labyrint of the World and the Paradise of the Heart by J. A. Komenský), Romanticism, The Holocaust in Czech Literature and Culture, The film The Cremator, Bohumil Hrabal, The film The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kunderas Fiction and FactsRecommended literature in English is listed in individual chapters.
