This semester's course will consider approaches to the significance ofthe feminine and the masculine as socio-cultural constructs in aspects of British poetry and fiction. By the end of the course students will have produced an essay analysing some aspects of these approaches and during the course they will be expected to engage in analytical discussion based on close textual reading in relation to the individual poems and works of fiction, considering how how the central female figures are deployed in relation to other elements in the literature considered.
