Cíl
The attending students will gain or develop:The ability to formulate critical review of a scientific manuscript. Skills necessary to formulate a sound reply to reviewer's comments. Orientation in the process of publishing a scientific paper. Overview of the potential issues, controversies and trends in the academic publishing
Osnova
• The course will be based on combination of individual and team-based hands-on experience with (mock) peer-review process, seminar-style discussions and talks by invited speakers regardging various aspects of academic publishing. The aspects we shall focus on include:• Academic publication - building stones: scientific paper, peer-review, academic journals• Peer-review in detail: rules for peer-review, hands-on experience• Alternative publication channels: books, open-access, self-archiving• Academic publication crisis and problems: confirmation bias, peer-review burden, financial aspects• Effective result dissemination: choice of journal, keywords, title, abstract; highlighting results, spreading the word• Differences in academic publishing between fields
