This course covers the basic principles of Materials Chemistry with the emphasis on inorganic materials. The lecture focuses on the relation between structure and properties of materials. Synthetic methods are grouped according to the physical state of reactants: solid, liquid, and gaseous. Fabrication methods of different shapes, such as fibers, thin films, and nanoparticles, are also covered. Students will learn:the basic principles of structural chemistry and generic structural types of solid state compounds, they will be able to apply them to other structural problems;mechanical, thermal, optical, electric, and magnetic properties of materials in correlation to their structure and judge new materials properties;to employ a variety of physico-chemical methods for the characterization of structure, morphology and properties of materials;to understand principles of classical solid-state and new soft synthetic techniques for variety of materials;to apply these synthetic methods to the fabrication new compounds and new morphologies;
