First TutorialCurrent conception of scientific cognition: Origin, paradigms and tendencies of modern science. Conception of processes of scientific cognition and thinking, the language of science. Empirical foundations of scientific investigation. Logical foundations for constructing scientific theories - axiomatic-deductive and inductive approach to theory formation. The problem of verification and falsification, testing of hypotheses. Normative and non-normative cognition of social reality. Nomological explanation in social sciences. Nomological explanation and humanity interpretation.Second tutorialBasics of scientific methodology: defining the terms of methodology of science, scientific method and methodology of scientific work. Student gains new knowledge, skills and competences in research metodology and techniques used in social science. By the analysis and comparision of particular issues and approaches s/he trains argumentation and interpretation skills developer in seminar discussions. Based on text analysis, critical thinking method, self-reflection and synthesis of gained knowledge s/he elaborates textual research tasks that are presented at seminars.

Požadavky
Written outputs: - two investigations of the mandatory and one of the recommended literature (usually in the proportion of 1:10) - one review of the mandatory literature (with the extent of up to 6 standard pages); - one professional essay applying findings of the recommended literature (with the extent of 15-20 standard pages); - one expert study (with the extent of up to 15 pages). Formal requirements for the texts: compliance with the CSN ISO 690 standard. Deadline for submitting the texts: a month before the exam.
