Introduction. Early concepts of social work. The relationship between theory and practice. Philosophy of science. The science of social work as an action science. The object of the science of social work. The relationship between profession and discipline. Social work as scientific problem-solving. The challenge of diversity. Classifying and assessing theories of social work. The need to avoid atomism and incoherence. Social work as a social system in society. Social work and modernization. Research in social work.

Získané způsobilosti

To understand and be able to deal with the diversity of theoretical self-conception of social work in theory and practice; to understand the theoretical basis of the science of social work; to be capable of identifying, classifying and assessing theories of social work and theories in social work; to understand the nature of the theory-practice relationship in social work and the importance of research and theory formation for social work practice, professional identity and development of social work as a professional system; to understand the basic characteristics of social work in relation to other disciplines and professions.
