The Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is in Central Europe. It borders to the Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. The capital and largest city is Prague and the currency is Czech crown. The government here is Unitary parliamentary republic and the president is Petr Pavel.

Surface

There are lowlands and also mountains, but not very high. The highest mountain is Sněžka, which is located in the Krkonoše. The western and eastern part of the country are also hilly. In the central and in the southeast part of the country are lowlands. Water from the Czech Republic flows to three different seas: the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Black Sea. We have got four famous rivers: Vltava, Elbe, Oder and Morava. There are also four national parks in the Czech Republic. The oldest is Krkonoše and the others are Šumava, Podyjí and Bohemian Switzerland.

Prague

Prague is the capital and largest city on Vltava river with 1,5 milion people. Prague is called The Hundred – Spired Prague, becaise there are more than thousand spires. It is also home to a number of well-known cultural sights. The main sights are Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old town Square with the Prague astronomical clock and many others. Prague has been included in the UNESCO list. We can also find here the Charles University – the oldest university in Central Europe.

Czech products

Czech Republic has many delicious meals. The first one is svíčková. It is one of the most traditional meals of Czech cuisine. It is a cream sauce with traditional dumpling served with cranberries.

The other product is definitely Czech Beer. It is one of the best beers in the world. The average of beer is around 160 liters for per person, which is the highest in the whole world.

Sport

The most popular sports in the Czech Republic are football, ice hockey, athletics, and skiing. The Czech Republic has several Olympic champions and world-famous sportsmen. The first is Jaromír Jágr – he is ice hockey player. He worked at the highest world level in many NHL clubs. He ranks among the best hockey players of all time. The second is Ester Ledecká – she snowboards and skis. She received two gold medals at the Olympic Games in 2018, for skiing and snowboarding. The other is definitely Martina Sáblíková – she is a speed skater. She is a three-time Olympic champion and world champion. She is a honoured sportswoman in the Czech Republic.
