WRITING PHONEMIC SYMBOLS ON THE COMPUTER
On the toolbar press vložit and then symbol. Under písmo enter Lucida Sans Unicode. Next, in the box below the symbols called Kód znaku, type in the numbers on the right of each symbol for each phoneme. Then press vložit. Phonemic symbols which already exist as keyboard symbols are also listed below, as are diactitics.
Lucida Sans Unicode is a big font. Compare this paragraph with the one above. The above font is Times New Roman size 12. This paragraph is Lucida Sans Uncode 11. If you mix Lucida with other fonts, it may disturb the line height. So if you want the rest to be in Times New Roman size 12, for example, set the Lucida Sans Unicode to size 10. With Times 10, use Lucida 8.
In Word, you should disable certain AutoCorrect functions that will otherwise automatically make undesirable symbol changes, notably the "correcting" of i to I (since you may want to use the phonetic symbol i on its own).
Be careful over confusingly similar phonetic symbols.
