Získané způsobilosti

The objective of the course is to interpret the historical and ideological roots of the welfare state and provide good awareness of the role of the welfare state in historical context and the context of transformations of the present society (globalisation, information society). The goal of the course is to interpret the strong and weak points of the welfare state from the point of view of the important (political) ideologies of welfare. It also provides information on the important evolution trends of the contemporary European welfare states (New public management, quasi-market arrangement of public services, transformations of governance, cost-saving measures and departure from the so-called decomodification). Especially with stress to central European historical and ideological context. Students are required to interpret their knowledge of the basic principles of social justice and solidarity from the perspectives of different ideologies taking into account the historical and cultural context also with stress to central European historical and ideological context.The outcome of the course should be the student's ability to reflect on the role of the welfare state in present-day Europe and the economic, social or demographic pressures on its transformation. Students should be able to describe the relations of market, state and civil society within the so-called welfare triangle of the modern society.

Written essay on a topic from the list below. 1250 2500 words. The introduction must always include the aim of the essay, the application and symbolic objective and a brief outline (succession of sub-topics) and a commentary on their logical arrangement. The text is based on printed sources, electronic sources. References to the sources are included in the text itself. The lecturer assesses students' effort to present context and possible causes and consequences of the analysed phenomena instead of a mere description of their current state.The list of topics for the essay:a) Ideological context of welfare- Different views of social justice their theoretical and practical aspects (justice according to Rawls, the relation of justice and equality).b) Main welfare ideologies- Mail welfare ideology brief critical review (Marxism, Liberalism, Feminism, Greenism...)c) The main issues of modernization of the contemporary european welfare state - Reform of the system of pensions in selected country justification of the need for reform, the main risks of the current and the proposed modifications. d) The main subjects of professional discussion in the area of current modernization of the welfare state:- Globalisation and its influence on the modern European welfare states of the present day. Multidisciplinary impacts with the emphasis on the welfare of the society.- Visions of the future shape of the postmodern society (e.g. based on the reading of the book "New civilization" by the Tofflers or other sociological and futurological visions).- What are the possible general forms of the welfare state modernization? (reducing of benefits, more severe conditions of entitlement to benefits etc.)
