Cíl

Course content: ·         What is the political culture? We will focus on operationalization of the term political culture and the main scientific approaches to its empirical study (micro vs. macro, quantitative vs. qualitative). ·         History of political culture. The course will introduce the works of main political culture thinkers (such as Niccolò Machiavelli, Max Weber, Ruth Benedict, Gabriel Almond and Sidney Verba, Robert Putnam, Ronald Inglehart).·         Political culture in comparative perspective. We will focus on political culture within various regions such as Western and Middle Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, the United States, Islamic countries.  ·         Young people and the political culture. The course will show the work with data from political attitudes and political participation research of Czech and German university students. ·         Political culture and civil society. We will pay attention to the political activism, protest and civil rights movements, democracy and trust and the post-materialistic values.
