Sylabus
The course will be divided in three parts: 1. The Phenomenologist: Extensive analysis of the phenomenological method; 2. The Film Director: Descriptive investigation of film production (i.e. of cinematic techniques); 3. Cinema as a Phenomenological Art: Comparative study of both processes. In what concerns phenomenology, we will rely not only on the classic works of Husserl, but also on less known husserlian texts that focus on the problem of the constitution. Regarding cinema, we will work with texts of classical theories of cinema like the writings of Eisenstein, Balázs, Kracauer, Bazin, Mitry and others.The course aims at students with an interest in the topic who demonstrate at the same time a level of French to be able understand the discussion in the seminars. Both course presentations and papers can be made in English.
