Cíl

Kurs si klade za cíl seznámit studenty s nejdůležitějšími událostmi v oblasti Severní Ameriky od 90. let 19. století až do konce studené války.

Období progresivismu v USA (1890-1921) 3. 1. světová válka a epizoda "strachu z rudých" 4. 20. léta v USA: prosperita, modernizace životního stylu a kultury, převaha republikánů 5. Pád akcií na Newyorské burze, světová hospodářská krize 6. Prezidentství Franklina Delano Roosevelta, Nový úděl 7. Izolacionismus, neutralita, USA a Kanada ve 2. světové válce 8. Poválečná prosperita, přechod hospodářství od války k míru, počátky studené války, NATO 9. Americká kultura a společnost v 50. letech 20. století: boj za občanská práva Afroameričanů, McCarthismus, konformismus, beat generation 10.Dramatická 60. léta: prezidentství Johna F. Kennedyho, Lyndona B. Johnsona, Vietnamská válka, protesty, kontrakultura 11.Prezidentství Richarda M. Nixona, sblížení USA s Čínou 12.Prezidentství Ronalda Reagana. Ohrozeni celistvosti Kanady québeckými separatisty13.Bill Clinton, vztahy USA-Kanada-Mexiko v rámci sdružení NAFTA
