Learning Methods:The course includes lectures and seminars, with seeing movies about Baltic region. Every student has to apply an essay, which is required. Seminars and discussions are based on overworked required materials and composed reports. Participation of the seminars is obligatory.Methods of Assessment:The course conclude with an examination ? a report based to the theme of written essay. The examination grade is based on participation and activity of the lectures and seminars (50%) and essay (50%).Themes of lectures and seminars:The lectures consist 3 parts:1. The first one is dealing with the regionalism and ? Baltic Triangle?. Clarify emerging trends in the political, institutional and economical cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Introduction: Regionalism. Trilateral Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian co-operation. Geopolitical considerations. The Baltic Institutions. Legal Environment for the Baltic co-operation. Towards a Baltic free trade area.2. The second part is dedicated to the developments in the cooperation of the Baltic states with their Scandinavian neighbours. The process of integration of the Baltic Sea states. The Baltic Sea regional co-operation. Formula 5 + 3 Baltic-Nordic co-operation. Formula 5+3. Economic co-operation between the Baltic Tree and Scandinavian countries. The Baltic Sea co-operation.3. Third part examines the process of integration of the Baltic states into the EU and Baltic/EU relations.The Baltic States and the European Union. Back to Europe.
