Cíl

Teaching aimsThe utility of the educational crisis game rests on a variety of aims:1)      Similarly as in seminars and reading lectures, the method of gaming engages students in cognitive learning. Preparation prior to the actual gaming requires participants learn factual information about the general situation and the real policies of participating actors. Moreover, during the simulation the participants may gain an understanding of the processes, conditions and limitations of strategic and political decision-making in politics. Students thus may learn what policy options are normally available to governments and how to build a consensus for their positions.2)      Among the most significant added values is the effect of gaming on motivation and interest of students. Not only that the participation in the crisis game is itself interesting and involving, but it also increases interest in the topics simulated in the game. Furthermore, it may increase interest, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning in general. Not the least important should be the effect of crisis gaming on the relations within the department/institute. Participation in crisis games will help students to get to know each other and it may even contribute to promoting departmental/institutional identity.
