Nursing I - syllabusAnnotation:The subject is outlined theoretically - practically. Systemically defines nursing as a modern scientific discipline with its own philosophy, value system, subject to review and methodology. The subject introduces the historical development of nursing in the Czech Republic as well as in the world. It introduces to the main tasks and functions of nursing in society. It enables students to understand the main purpose of professional nursing practice, which is the ensuring and satisfying the needs of the patient/client, family and community. It introduces the classifications of human needs according to various authors and disciplines. The subject is focused on the reactions and expressions of unmet needs of healthy people, sick people, people with disabilities and dying people. From a practical perspective the emphasis is on the teaching of nursing procedures and interventions in lab conditions and in clinical practice. Practical exercises allow the students to acquire basic manual skill and confidence of safe and quality nursing practice and implementation of interventions in patients.The content of the lectures and practical exercises: Nursing as a scientific discipline. The paradigm of nursing - a person, health, environment and nursing activities. History of nursing; Holistic approach in nursing care; Ethical standards in nursing; Organization of nursing care. Quality and standardization of nursing care; Introduction to communication in health care; Human needs in the nursing care I - theoretical introduction; Human needs in nursing care II - perception of health status: activity to maintain health, nutrition and metabolism, activities and exercise, rest and sleep, perception and cognition, self-esteem and selfactualization, fulfillment of roles and interpersonal relationships, sexuality and reproductive abilities, coping with stress and stressful situations, faith, beliefs and life values; Home and hospice care; Pain as a nursing problem; Measuring techniques in nursing care; Mobility and immobility in nursing care; Iatrogenesis - harming of patients, adverse behavior of health professionals Duties of health care workers; A theoretical introduction to the various nursing procedures and interventions such as monitoring vital signs, medication administration, methodology and technique taking of biological material. Care about hygiene and prevention of bedsores; Dressing of wounds and dressing techniques; Activity and exercise; Monitoring and measurement of physiological functions; Communication with the patient; Hygiene demands on the medical facilities, disinfection and sterilization, hand hygiene; Administering of medication; Application of injections i.d., s.c. and i.m.; Collection of biological material; Practical exercises in clinical operation.The conditions for passing clinical nursing practice:The condition for the fulfillment clinical practice is to meet all required exercises and interventions in the lab and medical certificate to carry out practical training in a health care facility and immunization against transmissible diseases according to valid law.The conditions for finishing of the courseThe condition for course completion is participation on seminars and practical exercises (clinical practice included) and successful completion of the final test. The subject is finished only by credit.
