Kurz se skládá z cyklu přednášek a workshopů, které spojuje jedno lingvistické téma. Výuku vede člen lingvistické sekce Katedry anglistiky a amerikanistiky, anebo host katedry. Tematika závisí na specializaci vyučujícího. Popis konkrétního semináře je zveřejněn na začátku semestru na stránkách KAA a na nástěnce lingvistické sekce.The POME course in the winter term 2014 will focus on the morphosyntactic theory based on the English verb, the instructor will again be professor Emonds. Seven 90-minute Monday meetings are planned (13.15 in room 16), starting from September 22, when an organization meeting will take place (six more dates will be specified there). Note that POME allows multiple registration (you can receive credits for it several times) - all students of the Master´s programme interested in linguistics are cordially invited!Annotation:English verbal morphology consists of a small inventory of at most three fully productive suffixes and an infinitival marker to. Traditional grammars fail to elucidate their exact functions in syntax (which categories they represent, and exactly which categories they relate their verbal host to.) In fact, these grammars are seriously inadequate and misleadinge.g. the distribution of gerunds vs. infinitives is neither arbitrary, nor complex, nor unpredictable. Nor does the English tense and mood system differ in essence from those of other languages, such as Czech. These and other misconceptions of established traditional treatments can be replaced by revised formulations which capture many long-standing puzzles about English verbal morphology: why don't modals inflect for number?
