This subject can be taught either in Olomouc for the whole semester, or it can be taught in England, with some lectures in Olomouc as well.If this subject is mainly taught in England, then there will be 3 lectures in Olomouc before travelling to England where we will be in Cambridge, just north of London. There will be 4 nights in England, which means 3 whole days devoted to English music. The first day will be in Cambridge, and surrounding countryside. The second day will be spent completely in London. The third day will be a trip to Stratford upon Avon and Warwick, in Warwickshire, the home of Shakespeare. There will be 1 lecture on return from England. The best time to visit England would be the week before Easter, which is a week without University lectures.If the subject is taught in Olomouc, there will be weekly lectures as with other subjects.The music covered will include: the music of Dunstable, La Contenance Anglaise, Tallis, Byrd, the Golden Age of English Music [at the time of Shakespeare, and Queen Elizabeth I], Purcell, Handel, German visitors to England, including Mozart and Haydn, 19th century music, Elgar, Vaughan-Williams, Holst, Britten and the 20th century.

Požadavky

(i) A short reflective essay on the main points of the time spent in England, preferably in English, but may be in Czech; (ii) 5 days in England at the expense of the student [travel + accommodation for 4 nights].
