Obsah

The course starts with a reflection on course delegates´ experience with conflicts leading to a widely accepted definition of the term "interpersonal conflict". Then a brief exercise will lead us to the topic of "natural conflict behaviour". After that the cooperative conflict conversation will be introduced as still another and more productive way of handling conflicts. Parts of this approach, like nonviolent communication and active listening, will be practiced in separate exercises, done in small groups. Towards the end of the course role plays which simulate a conflict situation between two people will be done in order to get hands-on experience with the concept of the cooperative conflict conversation. These role plays will be done in triads with two delegates playing and one delegate observing, and - after the role play - giving useful feedback to the role players. Role plays are based on role assignments provided by the lecturer, so there will be no sparking of real conflicts among course delegates. The course will finish with a glance at the escalation steps of conflicts thereby providing a guideline as to the limits of self-help in interpersonal conflicts.

Získané způsobilosti

The course seeks to provide an understanding of the "mechanics" of a conflict, along with a tool-set that can be used to cope with interpersonal conflict between two parties, at low to moderate escalation levels, with no third-party at hand to moderate/facilitate the conflict conversation.

Požadavky

There are no requirements for the course other than willingness to actively participate. The lecture parts of the course are intended to provide a framework within which personal experience of the delegates can be blended with possibly new approaches presented. In order for new approaches to settle, an arena for trying them out is given. Hence, active participation in and contribution to the exercises and role plays is mandatory, and - in fact - the one and only assessment criteria.
