Obsah
Since the 1960ies an increasing number of projects have emerged that use art to affect social dynamics. These works are experimental, community-based and emphasize on participation and dialogue. They appear in situations ranging from performing in public spaces to influencing urban planning strategies. The creative means behind socially engaged art is said to "rehumanize" a fragmented society. Engaged with the texture of living, this form of art often blurs the line between art and life, most visibly in today´s DIY culture and urban farming movement. With globalisation as a driving force changing the social structures of people´s lives, in recent years the focus of socially engaged art has gone to counter-cultural activism. Artists not only want to create awareness to the pressing issues of our times and address it to the stakeholders, but also enable common citizens to have a voice and be integrated into the process. But there remain questions to be considered. What is the social value of such participatory authorship, and what are the aesthetic limits of the results? How does socially engaged art compete in a field designed to catch/distract the viewer´s attention?
Získané způsobilosti
Albert Einstein remarked that you cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking used when they were created. Artists often have to think outside the box, marking that kind of flexibility necessary to foster change. This workshop guides students through the artistic thought process in response to a social situation.
