Obsah

Over the course of 2 days, we will introduce systems thinking techniques and apply them in the context of playing a range of board and card strategy games. The workshop will be highly participative. We will start by contrasting systems thinking to other methods of thought, define what we mean by a system, and think about the relationship between games and systems. We will explore how to model a strategy board game, starting by playing. Students will have the opportunity to develop diagramming skills in order to deepen their understanding. We will widen our horizons by playing more games - both simple and the more complex - and touch on how to approach 'messy problems', open systems and even inventing our own games.

Získané způsobilosti

Students should be able to start to address problems using a holistic rather than reductionist approach. They should have an ability to draw simple systems diagrams, including systems maps, and should be able to identify the main components of a generic human-centred system. They should be able to apply their systems knowledge to demonstrate a systemic understanding of strategy games through simple modelling techniques.
