Obsah

People's sense of security can hardly be objectively measured. Rather, the feeling of (in)security and the actions that ensue from such a perception are entrenched in the cultural maps of meaning, as much as they are related to the given, particular threats of the physical, socio-economic and socio-cultural environment. These cultural maps of meaning point to the image of the self in relation to the "other", the perceived source of threat to one's security. This course builds on established peace building knowledge, and departs from it through a more holistic approach. It deals with the role and impact of culture on intergroup conflicts, focussing on the subtle dimensions of cultural violence, power asymmetries and lack of trustworthy qualitative social relations. The phenomenon of group focussed enmity will be explored and positioned in relation to security concerns within the international power relations. Further, we try to establish techniques to liberate ourselves from destructive patterns generated by politics of fear through action. Often, in fighting something we become that what we fight against. This course is the beginning of a path to empower to confront the abysses, without falling in it; confronting obscurity without becoming obscures ourselves. We will employ in the interactive theatre method, which has been proven it's meaningfulness in constructive conflict transformation. Using the participatory and creative approach of "Theatre for Living" (Diamond) the course will allow participants to explore their own biases and preconceptions, and critical translate their experiences from a micro-political to a macro-political level in the field of security concerns. The whole process will be framed into meditative practices to strengthen the connection to the inner selves and empower to act from within there.Readiness to practically engage in a group process and openly share experiences, willingness to do physical exercises and a thorough preparation of the prescribed literature are mandatory preconditions for all participants. We will explore the true sources of conflict based on limited and variable perceptions and how to shift perceptions in order to perceive unifying field of recognition and understanding.

Získané způsobilosti

The course seeks to provide universal knowledge and competences that will be useful regardless of participant's career choice. Emphasis is given to build a) knowledge on violence, culture, insecurity and peace building b) the repertoire of tools to handle conflicts and situations of threat constructively and c) to strengthen the personality of the students with regards to creating their capacities to trust and envision new patterns and constructively in conflicting situations based solid theoretical foundations and practical knowledge. It aims to strengthen the capacities of agents of change to take decisions in physically dangerous settings. Particular in situations of violent conflicts, we have to trust our intuition and our ability for decisions, which might have irreversible consequences. Further, we have to master our emotions, for not becoming a play ball of the unconscious stream of events. The subtleness of this process to tackle cultural violence thus explains why this weekend seminar can only be seen as an introduction towards these higher goals.
