He belonged to the group of writers called themselves The Lost Generation. Hemingway was born in 1899 in Chicago. He did not stay there all his life, however. Cuba and Paris became his adopted homes. Ernest Hemingway worked as a newspaper reporter. During The World War I. he was ambulance driver in Europe. In 1954 Hemingway was awarded the Nobel prize for The old man and the sea.
