10) Culture

Culture is one of the most important part of our lives. It includes the products of human activities that enrich people in some way. Culture makes our lives more amusing, pleasant, less monotonous and boring. It would be really difficult to live without the culture, because we spend most of our free time with it - we watch films, listen to the music, go to the theatres, etc.

We can divide the culture into a several different parts – films, theatre, music, fine art, and many more.

First of all, I would like to talk about the films. The film has many genres, such as the comedies, historical stories, thrillers, dramas, crime stories, science fiction, fantasy, ,, horrors, romances and many more.

I personally like watching the films very much. From the genres, I like the comedies but they have to have good humor, the dramas with interesting stories, the thrillers, the crime stories and when I was younger I also used to like the horrors but not anymore because now I’m too scared to watch them.

I also like some of the TV shows, such as Glee which is kind of musical with the excellent singers and songs, Bones which is a criminal show with a great chemistry between the two main characters or The Simpsons which is an absolute classic but I prefer the older episodes to new ones because they are better. And one of my most favourite TV shows is Dexter which recently appeared on our TV and it’s a story about a serial killer who works for police.

I most often watch the shows in English with the Czech subtitles because I can improve my language by listening it and also Czech dubbing mostly isn’t as good as the original. And I can also watch them shortly after they are released in the USA and I don’t have to wait for two or three years than they get to our country.

I also prefer subtitled films to the dubbed ones because I like to hear the original voices of the actors.

I also like going to the cinema with my friends but I don’t go there very often lately. For me it’s better to watch films at home because I don’t have to pay for the tickets, it’s more comfortable and I also can stop the film and continue the watching later. On the other hand in the cinema we have a better impression of the film and also a large screen and a good sound.0

The next important part of the culture is the music. It’s also one of the oldest forms of culture, because people make music ever since. Music developed a lot throughout the centuries, and lots of different genres were created.

I usually like to listen almost every genre except for country, jazz or brass music. Most of the people like pop, also called „the commercial music“ because the songs are often simple, with simple lyrics and catchy rhytms. Most of the music we can hear on the radio is pop. But I don’t listen to the radio very often so pop music isn’t one of my favourites.

I like rock because it isn’t as sweet as pop, it‘s harder and has a good beat and the meaningful lyrics. It uses mainly electric and bass guitars and drums. From the rock, a lot of other genres were created, for example hardrock, punk or metal.
