Nowadays, the popularity of the instant messaging programs is rising very quickly. You can choose from many different programs, such as ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, Skype and many more. They’re different from e-mails, you can see there if your friends are online and you can write to them expecting an instant answer. These programs often offer more special functions, such as sending files from one user to another or even calling via the Internet.
These days also the social networks like Facebook, MySpace or Twitter are very popular. Facebook is a web system for communication among users, sharing information and for fun. It had over 350 million active users last year so it means that Facebook is one of the biggest social network in the world.
But just like everything also the Internet has some of its drawbacks. For me it is that everytime I connect to the Internet I spend there too much time, more than I would like to. The Internet can be also misused for example for plagiarism because students can download there some texts, turn them in to the teacher and pretend that its their work. Sometimes it could be also dangerous for the children because they can find there uncensored sex and violence.
And now I would like to give you some of my own opinions and experiences. I think communication takes a great part in my life, as in anyone other‘s life. For communication, I mostly use the text messages and e-mails. When I was younger, I used to write and send letters and postcards to my friends, but not anymore. But I think the most important and the best way of communication is still the face-to-face contact and it should never be replaced by any other means of communication.
To make a conclusion, I think it’s not possible to live without the communication, and we can be happy that we have so many means of communication these days, so we can easily get in touch even with friends living halfway around the world.
