And now, I’d like to mention briefly the health systeme in the Czech Republic.. The system is mainly based on health insurance and other fees. Every inhabitant has to pay social and health insurance that are paid in the form of contributions to a health insurance companies. The healthcare in our country is going through many changes recently. For a few last years we have to pay 30 crowns for seeing a doctor at a surgery, 60 crowns for a day in hospital and 90 crowns for a visit of the emergency room. These charges are called the regulation fees and are meant to be a help for our health service.
As everything also the health systeme in our country has its problems. Probably the most discussed one lately is the leaving or the doctors to the foreign countries because of their underpayment. They would like to have bigger salaries and because our government can’t pay them so much money they decided to leave and think they could earn more abroad. But it isn’t only recent problem it has been happening for couple of years now. The consequences are that in the CR we don’t have enough good specialists in some branches of medicine. There is also a lack of nurses because they are also underpaid so less and less girls want to study nurse schools.
Also the behaviour of the doctors isn’t always the best. Sometimes they are rude or even mean to pacients or they don’t examine you properly and just send you to another specialist. It may be caused by their owerworking but I think when they were choosing this job they should realize what is it like and when they became doctors they should be aware of their resposibility for the human’s health and lifes.
As the pacients we could see the problems also in hospitals. There isn’t enough comfort and privacy and there is low number of beds which is supposed to be cut down even more soon. Medical care can be also quite expensive, especially when somebody has some serious problems and has to stay at hospital for longer time.
The problem is that there are also too long terms of waiting for the surgery.
In the medicine, we can find also several topics which we can call the ethical problems. Probably the most discussed one all around the world is an abortion. In our country it is legal but for example in Poland it’s against the law because of the people there are strongly religious and the church disagree with it. I think it’s often used by the women who don’t want to have a baby, because they wouldn’t be able to take care of it or for example by young girl who became pregnant after a rape. I think that it’s everybody’s choice wheter or not go to the abortion. In some cases it may be better if woman give a birth to baby and give it to adoption but I think that after the rape it’s almost impossible for a woman to keep the baby.
The other topic is an euthanasia, which is defined as a dispatch by request or just as an assisted suicide. In our country it’s illegal and by law it’s considered as a murder. But in some other countries (Switzerland) it’s legal so incurable or fataly ill people can end up their lives. I personally think that also our government should legalize it because sometimes it‘s almost impossible to keep on living for people for example in cancer cases because of strong pain. These people who suffer and aren’t possible to recover should have a right to pass away with the medical assistance and not have to commit a suicide by themselves. Everybody isn’t able to do that.
