In the USA says time’s money.

They haven’t many national holidays.

Most on the holidays are federal public holidays.

USA

– For USA is important these days → Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Halloween, Christmas.

  • Independence Day – it is celebrated on 4th July in American federal holiday.

- it celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of independence on the 4th July 1776 which made the American colonist independent on the UK.

- Thanksgiving Day – it is celebrated on 4th Thursday in November.

- It was first celebrated by the Pilgrim fathers in 1621.

- It is celebrated by a traditional dinner – roast turkey.

- In 1620 a group of people sailed from England to America on a ship called the Mayflower.

- Halloween – is celebrated on 31st of October, called All Hallows.

- Children celebrate it by dressing up in Halloween costumes.

- Children go to their friends and neighbors houses and they knock at the door. When people come to the door, children say “Trick or treat” The people treat the children with sweets, fruit or money.

- Christmas – isn’t a national holiday. It is celebrated in December. Christmas Eve is 24th December and Christmas Day is 25th December.

- the person who brings children presents is called Santa Claus.

- Christmas dinner is roast turkey with roast potatoes and Christmas pudding.

United Kingdom

  • For UK is important these days → St. Patrick’s Day, The Queen’s Official Birthday,

  • St. Patrick’s Day – is celebrated on 17th March.

- Originally it was and Irish holiday. People dress up in green clothes.

- The symbol of the day is the Irish national flower, green shamrock.

- The Queen’s Official Birthday – is in June. It is a great ceremony with parade with Queen’s guards and soldiers. In the UK has been celebrated since 1784.

  • Poppy Day – celebrated on 11th November or the nearest Sunday also know as Remembrance Day. There is 2 minute silence to remember those who were killed in the world wars. Ceremony is in the White hall in London.

Czech Republic

  • for CR is important these days → Eater, Three Wise Men, Christmas,...

  • there are some days in our country, which are important not just for one person or for one family, but for the whole country.

  • Easter – is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full moon after on 21st March.

  • Children finish school on Ugly Wednesday. Then is Green Thursday, Great Friday and White Saturday. Easter Sunday is a day of preparations for Eater Monday.

  • Girls paint, color and decorate eggs and boys prepare their pomlázkas.

  • Three Wise Men – is celebrated on 6th of January. Children dressing up in King costumes and write on the door K+M+B. Name of the Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar.

  • Christmas – is celebrated on 24th December. For dinner we prepare soup, fried carp with potatoes salad. Who don’t eat meat on the Christmas Day, will see the Golden pig

  • Christmas tree is decorated – candles, bulls, sweets.

  • Infant Jesus gives presents.
