Brief history

• Legend has that Libuše predicted the future glory of Prague

• Charles IV Bohemian King and Holy Roman Emperor chose the city as the capital

  • Founded Charles university, St. Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge

• Prague is connected with religious – Hussite movement, 15th century

• 1621 - execution of 27 representatives of the uprising - Old Town Square

• 1918 the city became the capital of the independent Czechoslovakia

• 1968 it was occupied by Russian military

  • stopped the democratic reforms

  • the process of called normalization

• 1989 was Velvet Revolution

  • Splitting of Czechoslovakia into two independent states
