The Czech republic – My region About the city − The Mayor of the city is Zdeněk Fink − The population of HK is nearly 93 thousand − HK is a statutory town in Eastern Bohemia and the metropolis of the Hradec Králové region − lt is situated at the confluence of the Labe and Orlice − Hradec belongs to the warm climatic area − ln the city there are vast forests of known natural monument On the sail (Na Plachtě) and a few ponds and bodies of water (for example – Biřička, Roudnička, Datlík, Silver Pond - Stříbrný rybník) Education − There is the University of Hradec Králové with four faculties and one lnstitute − There are three significant high school with a long tradition of high school education: the Gymnasium of J. K. Tyl, Gymnasium of Božena Němcová and Gymnasium of Bohuslav Balbín − There are about ten professional schools Architecture − The city is famous for its modern construction, and it is named as the Salon of the Republic − Wel -known architects are Jan Kotěra and Josef Gočár − Market square with white tower − There is also Cathedral of the Holy spirit Culture − There are a lot of theatres, two cinemas, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gal ery of modern art and the Museum of Eastern Bohemia − The city hosts many festivals, like Rock for People, Hip Hop Camp, Jazz goes to town, Majáles, Truckfest Socio-health region − Hradec Králové is the city with an excellent quality of life and an excel ent social situations − Significant attention is paid to crime prevention Sport − There's a lot of sports facilities and sports clubs − The sports facilities include Všesportovní stadion Malšovice, Fortuna arena and Aquacentrum Hradec Králové Famous people of HK − Bohuslav Balbín was born in HK • He was a Czech writer, a priest a historian and an educator − Václav Kliment Klicpera, the Klicperas theatre is named after him − Antonín Petrof is the founder of the musical instruments factory − On the Gymnasium J. K. Tyl studied famous Czech writer Josef Kajetán Tyl, Karel Jaromír Erben, Alois Jirásek and Karel Čapek
