Basic facts:

  • Communication is a process of sending and receiving informations

  • Media= press, radio, television, internet

  • The mass media bring news about what has happended in your town or state and in the world

  • They play an important role in everyone’s life

Modern = television, internet, social media

Tradition = news, radio

PRESS

  • They informing its readers about the latest news in political, cultural and economic life.

  • We can learn details about new discoveries or results of sport match

  • The main parts: headlines, news reports, scandals, cartoons, ads, crosswords, horoscopes or TV guide.

  • Newspapers are dailies or weeklies

  • We can buy them at the news-agent, but is possible to subsrcibe them

Types

  • Broardsheets or serious newspapers- larger in size, with few pictures, they are serious, reliable, objective and unmotional (UK- The times, CZ- mladá fronta DNES)

  • Tabloids – smaller, shorter texts with many coloured images, there are large headlines, they aren’t really serious, they are just gossips, informations are subjective and the main title is usually misleading (UK- The mirror, CZ- blesk)

  • Magazines – they are published usually every week, they are focused on some area such as cooking, sport, fashion, cars, history, celebrities or animals ( UK- woman’s weekly, CZ- Katka, for children - Mateřídouška)

TELEVISION

  • Invited in the 20s in London. At first they were too expensive.

  • Firsty TV was only black and white, small and portable. Later it was coloured and bigger.

  • Nowadays, TV has a very inportant role in our lifes because it is very comfortable form of media

  • The Czech Republic has

    • 4 main public service stations – ČT1, ČT2, ČT sport and ČT24

(they are paid from the state and from fees)

  • 2 main commercial station – Nova and Prima

(they are paid form the commertial)

  • Morning Broadcasting normally starts at six

  • In the evening there are some games and quizzes (Lovec, co na to češi)

  • The prime time comes at half past seven when the daily news block begins, followed by the film or episode of the series.

  • When i was a child I used to like watching bedtime stories like Večerníček

RADIO

  • Radio broadcast 24 hours a day and we can listen to it nearly everywhere.

  • We usually turn our radios when we are working, driving, cooking.

  • We can listen to music, find out the weather, programmes of cinemas, traffic or car crashes.

  • We can choose from many radio stations – Impuls, evropa 2, blaník, county…

  • There are state or local stations (český rozhlas)

INTERNET

  • It is a modern type of media

  • It is a great source of information about everything

  • You can just browse the web, contact your friends, send and receive emails, read articles, do shopping, book your journey, search for information and many others

  • But you must be careful when using it. It is a public space and everyon can see or write whatever they want.
