1) How many states are there in the USA?

USA is a federation of 50 states. 
Forty-eight of them are situated in the southern part of North America (jižní část Severní Ameriky)
Alaska is in the northwest.
Hawai is an island in the Pacific ocean.

2) How large is the area of the USA?

The USA covers an area of about 9.5 milion square kilometres
It is nearly the same as all of Europe.
It covers more than one third of North America.
It is the fourth largest country in the world after Russia,Canada and China.

3) Which are the neighbouring states of the USA?

The northern neighbour of the USA is Canada. (severní)
To the west of Alaska there is Russia. (západ)
To the south of the USA lies Mexico. (jih)

4) Who discovered America and when?

America was discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus.
He was a businessman and he wanted to find a shorter way to India.

5) When was the War of Independence?

The war began in 1775.
The British government levied new taxes. (vláda vybírala nové daně)
The first conflict out broked when the British soldiers came to Boston in 1773.
Colonists dressed as indians threw all the British tea into Boston Harbour.

This war lasted till 1783.

6) How large is the population of the USA and what nationalities does it consist of?

Population is about 250 milion people
79% are white.
12% are black.
And the rest are Asians,Pacific islanders,Indian and Eskimos.
Nearly 80% of all inhabitants live in urban areas. (obyvatel)
The official language of USA is American English.
There are also many ethnic minitories which speak dialects or their native languages,such as 
Chinese or Spanish.

7) Which are the main mountain ranges and which is the highest mountain?

There are Rocky Mountains,Sierra Nevada,
Cascades in the west.
Appalachian Mountains in the east.
The highest mountain in the USA is Mount Mckinley in Alaska which is 6194 meters high.

8) Where are the main plains? 

The USA extends from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Atlantic Ocean in the east.

Lakes are: Ontario,Superior,Erie,Huron and Michigan
Between the lakes Ontario and Erie there are the Niagara Falls.
