TRAVELLING, MEANS OF TRANSPORT

Travelling is an important part of modern life, because it allows people to discover new places, meet new people, and experience different cultures. Today we have more opportunities to travel than ever before, thanks to modern technology, cheaper transport options, and open borders in many parts of the world. There are many means of transport people use depending on distance, price, and personal preference. For short distances, people often walk, ride a bike, or use public transport, such as buses, trams and underground. For longer distances, trains, long distance buses, and cars are common. When travelling abroad, most people choose planes, because they are fast and convenient.

Each type of transport has its advantages and disadvantages. Walking is healthy and environmentally friendly, but we can be lazy and it takes time. Buses are usually cheap and widely available, although they can be slow during traffic jams, or crowded by people. Cars are more comfortable and offer independence, but they are expensive to maintain and they cause pollution. Trains are usually comfortable, fast, and a quick option for long journeys, but they can be long delayed. Airplanes are the quickest option for long journeys, but they can be stressful because of security controls and the height of flying.

When it comes to travelling habits, everyone is different. Some people enjoy travelling by car because it gives them freedom. Others prefer public transport because it is cheaper and they don't have to worry about parking. In my case, my family doesn't have a car, so we usually travel on foot, by bus, or by train. I like to walk and travel by train.

Trains are my favourite means of transport, partly because my dad is a train driver, and my brother and my cousin also love trains. I love especially the steam locomotives (they are so beautiful!). I enjoy the feeling of watching the landscape from the window. I also really like trams, especially the old ones and mostly the beige-red ones that run in Prague. I don't like travelling by car and bus that much because it usually makes me sick. Also walking (at least in my town) makes me more independent.

Overall, travelling is not only about moving from one place to another. For many people, it is an important part of every day life—travelling to school, to work, to meet your family and friends or going for trips. Whether we travel by plane, train, or simply walk, even the journey can be interesting in its own way.
